Gardenia augusta ‘Radicans’ is a low-growing, spreading evergreen shrub that adds a touch of elegance to any garden. Renowned for its small, glossy dark green leaves and beautifully fragrant white flowers, it’s a favourite for creating lush ground cover or cascading effects in garden beds and pots. The blooms appear during the warmer months and are beloved for their classic gardenia scent.

This compact cultivar thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soils enriched with organic matter. It prefers a position in full sun to part shade, with protection from harsh afternoon sun in hotter climates. Regular watering is essential, especially during establishment and dry periods, as gardenias are sensitive to drought.

‘Radicans’ grows to a height of approximately 30-60 cm and spreads up to .900-1 metre, making it ideal for edging, mass planting, or as an attractive addition to rockeries. Its trailing habit also works beautifully in hanging baskets or along retaining walls. To keep it looking its best, feed with a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants and prune lightly after flowering to maintain its shape.
